Daily Mystic Messages - Smoke 'em if ya got 'em

When I was in marching band, we had a saying, “hurry up and wait.” I’ve heard military folks say this too.

One of the things many people crave is consistency and stability. We want to know what’s coming. No unwelcome  surprises.

And want a good flow in our lives and want it to pretty much stay the same, or within certain parameters. We want “balance.”

But your life is not an automated assembly line. And we don’t see that kind of rigid consistency anywhere in nature.

There are seasons in nature. In the winter, there is less activity. More things happening quietly below the surface. When spring rolls around all sorts of things start bubbling up and bursting forth. In summer it’s full out fun time. In fall, we start gathering for the winter ahead.

Often in our lives, when things start to speed up, we start grasping for control. Or getting overwhelmed.

When things slow down, we get bored and restless, or maybe feel like nothing is happening.

In other words, we tend to resist these natural rhythms. And when we do find ourselves with some space, we instantly try to fill it up, rather than allowing ourselves the opportunity to take a deep breath. To take stock, and reevaluate where we’re at and what we rally want for ourselves and our lives.

And the phrase that keeps coming back to from any of the prison films I’ve watched is, “smoke ‘em if ya got ‘em.”

Give yourself permission to take a mindful break.

Life moves through cycles. Times when we are going full tilt and others things move at a slower pace. Waiting.
Rather than mindlessly filling the time, give yourself permission to rest.

I hope you enjoy it and have an amazing day.
